A dresser is the heaviest thing in most bedrooms. Lugg, a moving company, puts a loaded six-drawer solid wood dresser at over 150 to 200 pounds, and emptying it takes off about a third to a half of that (Lugg's guide). It also tips: CPSC counts about 17,800 emergency-treated tip-over injuries a year from furniture and TVs (CPSC, 2026).
That is why this one sits at the top of our effort scale. It is a slow two-person carry, more so on stairs.
What this covers
- Chests of drawers and double dressers
- Solid wood and particleboard
- Dressers with attached mirrors
- Upstairs bedrooms
- Pieces in a garage or storage room
- Please empty the drawers before we arrive. We do not sort or pack contents
What helps us quote it
Clothes come out first. If the dresser is fastened to the wall with an anti-tip strap or bracket, tell us, because it needs to be released before anyone pulls on it. CPSC recommends those anchors, and new dressers are sold with them, so more homes have them now (Anchor It).
An attached mirror is the other thing to mention. It is usually bolted on, and it travels best off the dresser.

Questions about dresser removal
Should I take the drawers out before you come?
Empty them. Leave them in place or stack them, either works for us. Our guide on drawers in or out covers what to do if you are moving it yourself.
Can a dresser go in a dumpster?
It can if the dumpster's rules allow furniture and you can lift it in. City of Albuquerque residents can also ask about the free large item pickup (City of Albuquerque).
Can a dresser be donated?
Often, if it is in good shape. Beds4Kidz says it always needs dressers and also takes bed frames. Habitat ReStore and Goodwill of New Mexico take furniture too, but Goodwill refuses broken, worn or stained pieces. Staff at each place make the final call.
Is a broken dresser still something you take?
Yes. Missing drawers, loose backs and water damage are all fine. Tell us if it is falling apart, because the crew will carry it differently.
